• No they can not be used like traditional joy cons. They don’t have an internal battery or any of the motion sensors. They have to be connected to the switch at all times in order to function.

• No. It looks like the controllers can only be used when they are connected to the console. I tried to link them up separately and nothing happened. Also, there aren't any jump buttons on the left controller.
