• S mode is Microsoft's answer to the Chromebook, limiting you to software that has been tested and certified by Microsoft (i.e., software on the MS Store). It thus prevents malware, and, as a side benefit, increases efficiency and battery life. Installing other software requires exiting S mode, which is easy: just go to the store and search "exiting S mode."
