Thank you for the question. You do not need to take the laptop out of S Mode to perform the update, but updates are being rolled out by Microsoft according to the laptop model. Per Microsoft: "The upgrade rollout for Windows 11 begins in October 2021 and will continue into 2022. Specific timing will vary by device. Once the upgrade has been tested and validated for your specific PC, Windows Update will indicate that it's ready for installation. To check if Windows 11 is ready for your device, go to Settings > Windows Update and select Check for updates. If the upgrade is available for your device and you want to proceed, download and install it.".
