• I am a novelist. I dislike the keyboard immensely. I've had HP systems before, my last I wrote 3 books on. This one, however, has large chicklet-like keys. They are spaced out too far from each other. My small Lenovo chromebook is more comfortable to write on than this.

• Yes, it would be a good choice for writing a book, and it has an SD slot on the right side near the front.
