“i can not get the screen to light up when first turn on the laptop”

• The f3 button on the top row will adjust the screen brightness up. The f2 button will make the screen brightness less. Also, in settings/system/display, you can adjust brightness. Finally, in settings/system/battery, you can adjust some settings that affect brightness. You may also want to look at sleep and hibernation settings in the settings/system/power and sleep area.
