“Bought one and returned it because the noise (from the fan?) was driving me crazy; otherwise I liked it. Are they all noisy or did I get a dud? The HP laptops we have are virtually silent. I hesitate to buy another and then have to return it.”

Mine is silent. I can hear it when it boots up but it is not loud. After that it is very quiet.
