No, the HP cartridges are very easy - the latest versions don't even have the pull cords anymore. Just unbox and install.

I shake the cartridge back a forth to level out the toner inside just in case the box was stored on its side from transporting. (Also a tip: when the printer says the toner is low or out, I take the cartridge out and shake it to re-distribute the toner then I get more copies out of it.) You should have already pulled out the old cartridge. Put new one in. Push in drawer and your printer recognizes HP ink and calibrates. Then you are good to go. Hope this helps!
