“Will the printer print in black if no color cartridge is installed?”

• I have had several printers. If it has one black and one color, usually you need both cartridges in order for the printer to work. I install a color cartridge, but setup my printer criteria to Blank/Grayscale only.

• When the tricolor ink cartridge is empty or low, you would take that ink cartridge out. The printer will automatically go into single-cartridge mode. Then, you can print with just the black ink cartridge if you wanted to. So, you don't have to replace the tricolor ink cartridge.
