- Answer Hello, Linda. The HP Officejet Pro 8028 printer uses the HP 910 or 910XL ink cartridge series: black, cyan, magenta, and yellow. There needs to be some ink in all of the cartridges for you to print anything. This helps protect the print head.

QuestionDoes any hp ink (not just 962xl) have a date chip that will shut off printing on a certain date? In past, box had a date stamped on it and cartridge would stop printing after a certain amount of time past the box date stamp had passed even with ink left.

QuestionIf I go away for a while and does not use the printer for a few months, will the ink dry out ? If it does, how do I protect the cartridges and prevent them from drying out ?

- Answer Inkjet cartridges will dry out after several months of not being used. The best way to prevent them from drying out is to print at least 1 page every 30 days.
