“do i need a wifi connection or can i just use a usb cable only?”

• See the image below where it says do not use usb for setup. It looks like after setup you can print using a usb cable but it says it must also be connected to the internet. I’m using it with WiFi only. It prints great.

• Thank you for the question. You can connect with a USB cable, but you will lose the benefit of HP+, which includes Instant Ink and Print from Anywhere using your smartphone. Those features require a Wi-Fi connection.
