Thank you for reaching out. Are you using the ink cartridges that were included with the printer? The supplied cartridges are necessary to initialize (set up) the printer. After those cartridges are depleted, you can insert new retail HP cartridges or Instant Ink cartridges. Please reach out to HP Support to assist.

If that fails, you can exchange the printer during the return period or even contact HP Support and they can look into why your printer is not registering the inks.
