“Will the printer work if I only have the black ink cartridge installed?”

• Yes. I just took out the color cartridge and printed an MS Word doc in blank ink with just the black ink cartridge.

• Yes, once you've done the initial setup (which requires both included cartridges), you can remove the tri-color cartridge and the printer will go into "single cartridge mode" and print in just black.
