It's actually 2.99 per month as long as you're under the limit of pages. Also, if you're over, it's just a $1 per 10 extra sheets. Still a great deal.

As long as you stay within the limit, they will automatically send you replacement ink when your ink is low at no additional cost other than the 2.99 per month.

You choose a plan based on how many pages you print per month. HP will send you ink whenever you are low on ink and it will be at your doorstep before you even run out. That being said, you will be charged 2.99 per month to be able to print 50 pages a month, no matter how much ink you use. If you don't use up all 50 pages in a month, the extra pages will roll over to the next month.
