If your Internet connection is working the printer will communicate on its own. When you bought the printer you needed to activate your account. Check directly with HP.

Go to the HP site to see what you can do if you don't have the info. Not all printers have Instant Ink. i.e., when I price checked at Costco, the HP rep told them that the printers sent to Costco were not eligible for Instant Ink. The site I purchased form advertised Instant Ink & the box had signage as well. jr
