Setup was very easy for a MacBook Air with 12.7.4.
I did use the HP smart app on my iPhone to get the printer on my wireless network so I didn’t try the HP smart app for the MacOS.

I can’t say for certain, but I set mine up using an iPad and Bluetooth. Once it is setup other apple devices are able to find it on the same network, so it should work.

I have an apple and Hp lap top as well as desktop and all I can print to the printer. Yes it’s WiFi  I looked it up in my apple phone and found this I hope this helps

I have a MacBook Pro, and can print wirelessly from my computer. I set up the printer on my wifi and it was easy.

Yes, HP Smart is available for free from the Mac App Store.  HP Inc is the developer and it has no in-app purchases.
