• You can use the HP app with this printer, but even if you wanted to, there is no instant ink option for this printer. The app works well in that you can scan directly to your device or computer. You don't have to use it, but there is no cost or obligation to use it either.

• You do not have to use the HP Smart app with this printer. There is no HP Instant Ink option for this model. This printer can be used like normal.
