• Yes, I believe so. If you choose to copy/print in black that should not be a problem.

• Unfortunately not. In addition to printing, the ink acts as a lubricant as the printhead moves across the page. Printing with one or more empty cartridges would drag those heads across the paper dry, and quickly wear them out-like driving a car without oil.
