When you use the HP Smart application to scan, a window opens and you have the option to choose a page size. It will scan legal and scan 8.5 x 11 but you can't mix them, although you could probably scan them all as legal and see a blank spot on letter size pages that were scanned. I don't think the feeder will handle 75 sheets at a time, however. Sounds like you need something meant for a business. I use mine at home. Talk to HP and get their recommendation.

However, I imagine that if you feed legal size paper through top feeder, the printer will recognize it and scan it. When scanning, it only asks if it is a document or photo.
