Safe Mode. It means you can only download apps in the Microsoft store. You can still access other things.. for example my son need Google classroom. It is not in the Microsoft store but we can still access it by typing it in the web address bar. If there is an app you want to access and you aren't able to access it through Microsoft store or the web address bar then there is a way to take it out of S mode. It is not recommended and from my understanding if you do so then you cannot change it back. S mode helps protect the device so to speak. I leave mine in S Mode so I don't have to worry about my son downloading apps that may contain viruses and such. Just preference. I will say this streambook is great especially for kids, homeschooling, basic task and etc.
