“How strong/durable is the black foam ear piece part? I'm asking because my $100 Samsung headphones came apart from that ear piece and the foam bursted open, it wasn't even 5 months of usage.”

I have used these for 3 months with no issues. My cloud 2 wired set is 1.5 years old and has been abused by my children. They are still looking good.
