Hi there. For the Insignia™ 1.1 Cu. Ft. Countertop Microwave, it is not possible to run the timer and cook food simultaneously. The microwave's design allows either cooking or using the timer, but not both at the same time. If you need to keep track of time while cooking, you might consider using a separate kitchen timer or a timer on your phone. Ivy | Insignia Support
