• No, this is a manual defrost freezer. I've had mine for a few months and so far the inside ice build up is pretty little.

• this freezer, like most chest models, does not automatically defrost. unless you open the lid frequently in humid conditions, you should not need to defrost it manually more than a couple times a year

• No it is manual defrost but if you keep the lid closed it does fine.
