I was concerned about that too when mine arrived. It took really about 48 hours for the refrigerator to be completely at the correct temperature. I added drink bottles immediately, and other food only after 48 hours. After it was fully stocked and reached the correct temperature, the sides are no longer hot to the touch. I bought 2 refrigerator thermometers and it does maintain the correct temperatures at the recommended settings. When I first got the refrigerator I turned the temperature setting to the highest level. Unfortunately, I forgot to turn it back down once it was fully cooled and a glass water bottle in the back of the top shelf froze and broke. So make sure you don't run it on the coolest setting for very long!
