This actual soundbar, I bought to give as a gift. But two other Insignia soundbars (both different from this particular soundbar) that I own -- I've found that I can use the volume on either . BUT IT'S KINDA CONFUSING - I can use either TV or soundbar OR BOTH!! A BLEND OF BOTH. I think it depends on your TV.

Hi Shane,

It will work both remote, but mostly customer use only TV remote to volume up and down once connected.
