Hi MarkS! Thank you for reaching out to us regarding this issue on your Insignia™ - 2.0-Channel Soundbar. If you have an Insignia non smart TV, you may need to change the Audio format to use the HDMI connection. Just go to your TV's Audio Menu, select Audio Format/Audio Delay, then set Audio Format to PCM. If this still didn't work, the HDMI cord may be defective. I hope this helps.
