I am able to get sound from the TV with this sound bar. I use the audio optical cable and I just adjusted the sound from the TV from the TV remote. The soundbar volume will be adjusted from the remote they provide you. You might also have to adjust audio settings on TV to get sound to work. Hope this helps.

Right now I'm using an optical cable and I get sound from both the TV speakers and the sound bar. Whenever I lower the volume, I'll lose audio from the sound bar at times, though that typically happens when muting. What connectors are you using? And which Insignia model are you using? I'm currently using the 43" 4K Roku model so navigating the menus might not be the same if yours isn't Roku. On my Roku model, I simply go to "Audio Control" in the settings menu and select TV speakers for audio control. I recommend disconnecting the sound bar first and then access the TV speakers settings.
