“I have an Insignia sound bar hooked up to my Samsung TV with a digital optical cable. Sound works fine with cable channels but nothing but white noise when streaming Netflix or Hulu ... any thoughts on what the problem could be?”

I don't have an optical cable but you might try the included RCA audio cable (with the red and white plugs). That's what I'm using and I have no problem with Netflix.
