I am having the exact same issue I spent $80 on an insignia Ex ternal Hard drive and but a laptop but for some reason it doesn't give me an option to download or copy and paste the media files from the insignia external hard drive. It's a windows 10 laptop please tell me that there is a way that I can simply download the media from the external hard drive!!
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. If the old laptop is dead from hard drive failure it will not work in the device. Check Explorer to make sure the drive is seen. If so you may need to unlock it if it was encryptEd. If the drive is not a solid state see if you hear the motors in it. SSD don'tmake noise so the sound test only works on old style hard drives. If you are desperate for the data you can pay a professional money to recover the drive. That is very costly.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.I can't seem to understand the process you're explaining. How are you booting the laptop from a dead drive? Oh, you have a new laptop? OK, so you want to try to read from the old drive. Can you see it in the file system app? It could be a number of reasons why the old drive is not reading on your new system. I suggest you go to some help forums or take the darned thing to Best Buy to have it checked out by their Nerds.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. This sounds like your hard disk from the failed computer is bad. Does the the drive show up in your file manager under "This PC" ? If not then most likely the Hard disk is bad and not the enclosure.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Sorry to say but it sounds like the hard drive itself may be the issue. The USB 3 cable /case will work on a USB 2 port without issues, just at a slower transfer rate. When you plug in the drive on the computer do you feel it vibrate or hear it spinning? Unless the drive is an SDD you should get some indication it is spinning. ~ Chris
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later. Its not the drive thats the issue. Its the "dead" HDD giving you issues. Taking that drive out from the laptop won't allow you to boot from external drives in windows 10 with out a few steps. But accessing any files should be easily done as I just did what you just asked. I took a HDD from a windows 8 computer and popped it in the 2.5 drive, on a windows 10 laptop. The drive showed up and I was able to copy the files/pictures over.
Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.
