i have a segate barracuda external hard drive. I plugged it into the insignia and it will not let the power turn on. Whn I take it out of the insignia the power light comes back on null

Did you plug a power cord into the Insignia unit as well? Power is the round hole in the back. My HP's hard drive fired right up.
