Yes, this TV can play movies from a USB hard drive with the right apps and if the USB drive is programmed correctly.

Not that I am aware of. Upon inserting your flash drive, a prompt appears asking if you wish to start a slide show. Now, I must admit that I don't have a flash drive big enough to store movies so I've never tried. But I don't see the functionality on screen
