Hi SirdukeJohns! It is not uncommon for new appliances to have a slight smell when first being used. This is often due to the manufacturing process and should subside after some use. I would recommend running the air conditioner for a few hours and seeing if the smell dissipates. If it does not improve or if the smell is unbearable, then you may want to consider exchanging it.
