Yes, you must use the exhaust tube as the unit needs some way to get the hot air out of the room
in order to cool it,otherwise you would just be putting the hot air right back into the room.

You will need to use the hose to the window. when in ac mode this item exhausts hot air out of the back and without directing the air out of the building it will just send hot air back into the space you want to air-condition.

No, air conditioners need some place to vent the hot air they make while cooling air down. If you dont vent it outside you’ll wind up with a hotter room than you started with.
