You could use it on a sliding door, but I don't know off hand the measurements-there may be a gap at the top. If your handy-which really won't take much to do, get some plywood or other smaller pieces of wood, and maybe something to help insulate around it if you want. You can close the door onto it and it'll hold without putting screws in to mount. As for the BTU's, I dont' know where I put the manual offhand and I don't recall. I want to say it was about 3000 maybe 5000 according to the "new" ratings.
