My whole house AC died two years ago. I live in a townhouse. I use one unit on each floor. Recently purchased this for the upstairs. I sometimes let it cool the hall but basically use it in my bedroom with the door closed. I use one unit on the first floor and open a window in a room away from the AC. It works almost okay that way my kitchen is forty feet from the unit and is warm. Opening the window across the length of house helps cool it at night while sleeping in a closed room with a unit with the windows closed. You may need two…but I would try one first.
