My remote will not navigate through the tv. It will only turn it off and on. I have tried replacing the batteries but it will only bring up the home screen. None of the remote buttons work but off/on null

Try this, to Factory Reset the Remote, press and hold at the same time the DPAD-left, Back (↩) and Menu (≡) buttons for at least 10 seconds.
To pair the remote again, press the Home button for up to a minute.

Also you can download the Amazon Fire TV app on your Smartphone to control the TV over WiFi.
