“How do you switch inputs? Using the above tv (power on) - I can get a DVD to play (sound only) (receiver on video) but cannot get the movie to show only the usual tv menu screen like when watching regular tv.”

Make sure you have everything plugged in correctly to the side or back of the TV for your DVD player and then use the remote to say switch input and switch to the proper input. The various inputs are all listed on the main home menu. Use the remote wheel to click through. If you don't see it on the TV screen, just scroll to the side or down to see the input switch.
