It depends on what type of connections you have on the monitor. You already said it does not have a DVI plug in but if it has a HDMI, the DVI to HDMI cable will work. If you do not have a HDMI plug in then you probably only have a VGA plug in. Then you need to see if you have a VGA on the computer and jut get a VGA cord.

It will work under non gaming conditions, But 1080 monitors are available on promotion just crazy now. So You will just make your monitor that more expensive. Search for that overlooked display port model on promo or open box. be willing to sacrifice screen size and move on one NOW!

It depends on the ports on your monitor, in this case, it always works in one way, from computer to monitor. Now, if your monitor has only VGA port, it's better if you buy a DVI-D adapter to VGA, or change your monitor (there are cheap Full HD options on Best Buy or any dealer, online mainly). For example, for the cost of the adapter and the cable, you can buy a Sceptre 19"
