I truly do not know. For I have not attempted, nor did I purchase the cords for that type of connection.

The mini display port is only an output port. The adapter is a passive transition to an HDMI cable to connect to an external monitor.

this is active it has three ports. I have no complaints would buy this again

It's a passive adapter because it has a D and a P inside it, with two plus signs (+); one on top and one on the bottom. There's are located To the left of the symbols D and P.
