The ice cubes are definitely not thick large nuggets. If you compare them to a "standard" ice cube from your refrigerator, the large ice cubes are about half the size and have a hole in the middle. I have not tried the smaller cube option, but my guess would be closer to the Sonic Ice cube style. Hope this helps.
