I just received this for my bday we washed it out and plugged it to run the cycle before enjoying some ice cubes. When we turn it on no lights display on the top so we have no idea when to change the mode to which size ice we like. Is this normal not to j null

Not normal lights should be on

Reset the ice maker by unplugging it for 5 minutes to reset it. plug it back in and try the panel to see if it is responding. If not, there may be wiring or a board issue
