“There is a torn piece of spongy material around drain plug. Is that supposed to be there and if so, is this how it is supposed to look? My icemaker looks re-boxed and this just doesn't look right. (See picture)”

That part can go back in place. It’s a drain what your talking about. Mine came off and I panicked but it goes back.
