as long as the charger is in the vicinity of the tv it does not have to be near the tv i have mine a shelf but it has to be pluged into the tv in order for it to work by the way this set of head phones will not work with older tv's make sur your tv is up to date and fairly new

Sorry, there was a problem. Please try again later.Oh my, what a predicament. But I'm probably the wrong person to ask. I'm an old guy, age 78, and always err on the safe side if caution. My headphone charger is located pretty much directly adjacent to my TV. I have found though that with the headphones fully charged, I can walk up to 30 feet away or more and I still get good reception. But honestly don't know whether that applies to having the charger some distance away.
