Yes, you can charge the batteries through the controller via USB-C. Also, the dock can be plugged into a USB power adapter and work flawlessly. That's how I have mine setup since I hate the way it looks docked in the front of my Series X.

No you can’t since there anything making contact to the part where it let you charge it in the controller
