Neither. MDF is a dense compressed fiberboard, heavier than most woods. This is made from a much cheaper & lighter compressed wood product. It has a vinyl veneer applied to all visible surfaces. Typical of low cost furniture in this price range. If you bang into it with something heavy it will crush the underlying board and possibly tear the veneer.
