“Would an Ethernet chord or adapter work for me on my laptop if I'm working for a company from home that does not want a wireless connection? My laptop does have an Ethernet port, so do I just plug in an Ethernet chord to the modem/router.”

If your laptop already has an Ethernet cord; you won’t need this device. It’s meant for devices that doesn’t have an Ethernet cord connection built in. If you didn’t have a Ethernet port; you can plug this into your laptop using a usb connection, for you Ethernet cord.
