This adapter adds the ability for your laptop to connect to an ethernet network through a cable instead of just wifi. It assumes you also have an ethernet cable with RJ45 tips that's connected to a router or switch. You will connect one end of the adapter to the ethernet cable. Then you plug the other end of the adapter into a usb port on your laptop. The router can then talk to your laptop and add it to the ethernet network. Why use a cable instead of wifi? Sometimes wifi coverage is spotty or really slow. Once setup, a cable is usually faster, more secure, and generates less EMF.
