“I go away 4-5 months a year (winter), my NY printer remains idle, what happens to my plan? I want to buy the office jet 8620 I understand it is eligible for this program. How will the plan work, if I go away for 4-5 months a year?”

They will keep charging you whatever your monthly rate is whether you are using the printer or not.

I know you can sign up with more than one printer on your plan so maybe there's a way that they can "turn off" the one that's not in use temporarily and "turn on" the other one. I would definitely contact HP directly to find out if they can be of assistance to you and your printing needs.
