yea just bought boombox2 and trying this, not working so far but confirmed that 2 extreme 2's can connect to the boombox (1) and it is something else.

Awesome question! The answer is yes. Since our JBL Boombox and JBL Xtreme 2 speakers both have the Connect + feature, you should be able to connect all speakers together for amplified sound. First, pair speaker A to your device through Bluetooth. Once connected, grab speaker B and speaker C and turn them on. While something is playing on speaker A, press the Connect + button on all three speakers to get them all connected.
