“battery goes from 5 bars to 4 bars to 1. Do you think is this normal/due to listening at maximum volume, or is the battery bunk? i can listen at max volume for 1.5hrs. Charging it also goes from 1 to 4 bars after 2 min. Can listen low volume at 2&3 bars.”

Sounds like the battery is a dud - mine lasts for hours and never drops down the way you're describing.
