how do i remove the third (top) rack? null

If you are talking about the top silverwear tray, KitchenAid has a model without it. I purchased without. Perhaps you could ask your salesman how to remove it.

This model (KFTE104ESS) does not have a third rack!

To remove the third rack, fully extend rack until it stops. Then, open the track stops on each side and lift to remove.
